Hi,

I have a Majestic Model 10B27E (am/fm/shortwave/phonograph) that says "noise gate" on it. Does anyone know what year this was made?

More importantly, I need to find a stylus that fits on its Actsatic cartridge. On the cartride it is stamped 625 and then under that L-70. Anyone know what specific stylus I need. Many thanks!

Welcome to the forum, here is some information,http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/majestic_10b27e.html, on the set. And here, http://www.turntableneedles.com/Astatic-24-REBUILD_p_586.html, you can look up your cartridge, which is a Astatic model L-70.

It is in vol 19 of riders which is copyright 1949, so that should put it around that year.

Those crystal cartridges are almost always bad and will need to be replaced or rebuilt. I would be Astatic if it actually worked!

I'm a little confused as to what to do. Can more people weigh in as to whether I should buy a new cartridge. I really have limited funds. I was contacted by one vendor offline and am wondering if there is a bit of sales pitch going on. Sorry, new to the group. I don't mean to distrust anyone trying to offer help.

Well, you could get lucky and the cartridge may still work. Though, if it does, it won't work as well as it should. The Rochelle Salt crystals used in those cartridges really deteriorate over time, especially if it has been kept in a hot or humid environment.

If we can see pictures of the unit and its turtable with tonearm we maybe able to suggest
a replacement thats more modern.
Also wed like to know what you intend to do with it? If you intend to restore it and use it then there is a lot of help here just ask.

I intend to use it, but I would LOVE to know how much it's worth. This was a family radio passed down to a friend who just wanted to get rid of it. She heard I love old radios and offered it to me for free.

I believe someone posted the radio was first produced in1949, but it sure would be nice to get more exact...if that's possible.

Stylus only since their is a cartridge? Rebuild the cartridge and get a needle. Please be as specific as you can as to what I need. Thanks.

Hi, west-tech services would be the place to go for the cartridge, see the above. As for the exact date of manufacture, some parts have build dates, like the speaker, volume control, some tubes, and a few other things.

If you get into a restoration, you will see theses parts, and can check them then.
