I'm not sure what they did to it, but something isn't right. There appears to be a veneer of some kind on it, but I have a hard time believing that it's original.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-Emerson-77-console-gorgeous-working-videos-restored-chassis-no-reserve-/152513276441?rmvSB=true

If it is original, I don't think I'd want this one in my house.

Looks far different than it originally did: http://antiqueradios.com/forums/viewtop ... 1&t=287272

I'm curious as to why there is a double deck that the chassis is mounted on. Seems odd that the radio chassis is mounted higher than the standard shelf.

I guess to each their own. The colors of the finish just don't look right to me. It also looks like there's several filler spots that didn't stain the same as the veneer and so they stand out.

Looking at the original pictures I can see someone put some time into it, but it's just not for me.

I didn't change a thing about this console- just a standard refinish, not even a scrap of new veneer. Not sure what "doesn't look right" is supposed to mean- compared to what? Looks just like the catalog photos. 20 years on eBay, 100% positive Feedback, longtime member here....never have gotten the "doesn't look right"....tough crowd here as always but that's new.

"If it is original, I don't think I'd want this one in my house." "If it is..." Clearly labeled as refinished- no color added except to trim.

That appears correct, when I looked over at the catalog image of it, it does have that prominent veneer on the front.

Can't tell the color from the old bw image, but it's still just not my preferred tone/look.

If the top is original, then I give you a lot of credit on flattening out that water damage.

I do like the metal trim pieces that you just never see on a console.

Sorry, just my opinion on it.

You may want to take a photo of the radio outside in the bright sunlight for better results. The finish and radio in all looks better in your first video.

I would be more concerned with the sound. (2nd video) You may want a antenna or better antenna or turn off noise making interference (lights, motors, etc.) The tuning of the channels seems to me could be clearer.

For $99 not bad!

Joe

Last example of this radio at Estes auctions a couple years ago finished close to $3000- Not expecting that here but also unlikely to remain $99-.... As a believer in the free market I start as low as possible.

The videos are just icing on the cake, I figured why not add them though sound could be better.

Yes, you are right. I realized that after I posted. I expect that you will get well over $99 for this radio. You did a fantastic job. Just the top repair itself is amazing.

All the best for you, and I wish the highest bid possible for your radio.

Joe

I wait many months after such a rebuild to be sure everything stays fixed before permanent display or selling it. In this case though the top was fairly happy to go back down and has stayed firmly put. AND I have to make room for my CTC4 color set somewhere.......so off it goes......

I think it's a beaut! The dark color and heavy graining look like Rosewood to me.......

Looking at the rear chassis picture, isn't the output tube marked as gassy?

That can be easily taken care of.

What would worry me is that sloppy veneer edge on the top of the cabinet in the front left corner. It's in such an obvious place I'd think it would be much more noticeable in person.

Good call, changed that out after photos.

Did you ever see one of those with an airplane dial?

One just went across Seattle CL last week, listed for $50. Snapped up quick. I couldn't ID the model. Saved the pics though.

I like the tone of that one, the airplane dial one, it looks good to me. Not sure why, maybe the lighting or the flash was off with the small-window one, but it just doesn't look good to me as far as the tone is concerned.

IT ISN'T. That's the entire point of the detail pictures on eBay. In fact I made sure the glare hit that spot to satisfy people like you it was as unflattering as possible, yet it's fine. That's the WORST it can look above. The set is stunning in person. No one beside here has said anything about it looking odd. The fiberboard under chassis is factory. It's like conspiracy theory city here. I documented the restoration here when I did it. It's all out on the table, I'm a member here of nearly 20 years. All these elaborate theories are really a reach. None of you has even seen an Emerson of this model in person yet I am dragged through the mud based on hunches and general suspicion. I came on here 24 hours after I listed looking for someone trashing me and behold....I used to stop here daily or at least weekly. Now it's just anti-defamation work.

Personally, I think you did a fantastic job on the set. If I were into consoles and had room, I'd want that in my collection.

I'm sorry if you are taking offense to my opinion, but please remember, it's just an opinion, which is what this category on the forum is for. From what I've seen in the responses here, it sounds like most people like it, so I'm in the minority.

Wish you all the best with selling it!
