Wasn't there a thread in this forum about the Silver Marshall SG440 on eBay?

Where did the thread go? I wanted to read it again...

Do you mean the SM 440 on eBay right now (I am not familiar with an SG 440)?: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Silver-Marshal ... Sw8i9adWDn

I couldn't find a thread on the SM either...

Terry

I admit to some confusion myself on the correct name.

https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/silver_im ... 40_sg.html

But yes, that's the auction.

I thought there was a thread running about the radio in the auction?

Hi Rodney! You aren't imagining things. I remember reading the thread and the main concern with the radio was what happened to the missing wood on the upper front. I went searching for the thread and can't find it either.

I did find this advertisement that clearly refers to the core module of the superhet kit as the Silver Marshall 440-SG. SG apparently means "Shielded Grid."

http://www.americanradiohistory.com/hd2 ... e-0005.pdf

I was going to ask about the missing trim. I found a picture on the web (bottom-most photo on the following page) of a radio that has an air gap there. But the dimensions don't quite make sense, for it to have the piece of trim *and* an air gap.

http://www.indianaradios.com/Silver%20M ... 0Radio.htm

An air gap would make some sense for cooling purposes... Did radios of this era tend to get hot enough to need that kind of circulation?

I get it now, a Silver Marshall (SM) - SM 440SG as indicated on the label on the inside of the radio on eBay.

Outstanding radio, very rare.
There was a piece of wooden trim enclosing the front metal panel, no ventilation.
IMHO, a few inches of wooden trim can't kill the value of such a set, and it seems bids confirm it.
In any case, I can provide detailed pics of the trim (and the radio for restoration purpose, I have one in my collection)
Anyone can reproduce the trim with 10$
Luca

So who got it?

I think whoever the buyer is they got a good deal.
