I was looking at an item and wanted to ask seller a question. There used to be a box for that purpose but I don't see it now, you have to use contact seller. Am I right about this or did I miss something?

No Lou, you didn't miss anything. I believe that is the way it is now. In the past you use to be able to ask the seller a question and others could also see the question and the answer, but I don't see that anymore.

And be also advised that the seller has the ability to either post the answer to the auction or to send it to you only. Sellers Option.

I think this has to do with eBay's cracking down on sales made outside of eBay's listings. If you even try to include an email address or phone number they land on you hard.

That's not what I was saying TN, there used to be an area toward the bottom of the page titled:* ask seller a question*. The contact seller has always been there.

Yes,used to be at the bottom but it's been moved to the top/right as shown for quite a while now.

The way around that, which I learned from Dutch Rabbit, is to simply include an attachment to your message, which would be a wordpad letter, with your email addy, phone number, or any other contact info.

I almost never saw the ask the seller a question feature used. Most people just contacted the seller directly.
On this one, I don,t think ebay had any devious intention on this one. They just did away with a rarely used feature.

I would agree. I actually hadn't realized that it had disappeared until the subject was brought up in this thread!

Either way of messaging goes through eBay, so what does it really matter? Was the "contact seller" feature available when they did have "ask seller a question"? I can't remember, but if so, it was clearly redundant.

Another way to do it is to click on the seller's handle and there will be at the top right "contact seller."

will confirm, you are correct.

my way to 'get around' eBay's email filter as fifties describes works every time.
