That is very cool. In all my years of collecting I don't even recall seeing another for sale. Probably the most striking choice in that rich red. One the earliest examples of themed or "signature series" radios.

Not too many of those out there and the paint on that one didn't look too bad. I could see someone paying $345 for it.

That one's paint was chipped like crazy,I can't even figure out how it happened.
I have one that is pretty nice but I've seen one the is near perfect in the CHRS collection.

It's chipped, but it looked like most of the damage was on the top. If someone was displaying it on a shelf, most of this damage wouldn't be seen. The front looked a lot better than the top did. I personally wouldn't have paid anywhere near that much, but if this set was on someone's want list for a long time, I could see someone coughing up that much.

I'm usually a stickler with a sets condition, but I actually like the patina this one has. If it was any better it might appear like a more recent custom paint job. The way it sits it looks unmistakably original.
As far as the price, I know these are not your usual recap jobs. My two long-time repairman wouldn't even mess with any late '20's AC set. Taken that and it's scarceness into consideration I don't think the price was terribly high. I would've paid that for it.

I am a 20s guy--especially early A.C. sets. However, these model Philcos never did much for me. Glad to see some of the early a.c. sets command a good price!

I have never seen one of these before in person. I would say that the Red would be the most highly collectible of these sets.

It is so funny to me as I notice that the Red would have probably been the least liked color back when these were purchased new. Back in the 1920’s it seems people preferred the Brown colors to match wood furniture. Today, just the opposite Red and other colors would be more desirable.

I notice this with a lot of antiques, even some of the portable phonographs etc.

The rarest is the model 515 "Impressionistic". I believe there's VERY few of these around.

I just bought the one you linked to.It's a repro done by Ron,Mr. Philco himself! :D

I now have them all,511 with speaker,512 with speaker,513,514 with speaker and soon the 515.
I know of only one real 515,owned by a friend of Ron's.

Amazing Phil. I was wondering just how many of them are left. Did the speaker on that one have the art work too or just a solid color? I would imagine that's even rarer than the radio!

The 511's speaker is plain, all the others have floral designs on them, not sure about the 213 or the 215 speakers,I've never seen one.
