He was a real part of my Early radio experience. From the late 40's on I heard his show and played it at work many days including the whole last months of broadcast. To me when CBS pulled the plug on him they cheapened the whole radio experience. He was one of the last with live guest and music and daily banter about just about anything he found interesting. He had a voice and style that as some noted, made you feel like he was really a friend. The end of his show was one of my days when radio seemed to be fatally coming to an end as we knew it. The other big let down for sure was when the remaining soap operas left the air and we had only memories of how things used to be. At least till some years later the shows started popping up on recordings, but nothing is like the daily friendly broadcast of a family of people coming to your though your speaker. My grand parents listened faithfully to Ma Perkins and I can always recall it coming on right after noon where we lived and everyone sat around to see what new problem Ma would be solving in her ever understanding way.
