Greetings to the Forum:

I'm looking for a replacement meter for a Heathkit IM-28 VTVM. I will consider a junk / basket-case IM-28 if the meter is good.

Thanks,

That meter is also used on the IM-13. Hard to find meter or the 'glass'
I put one of these in a 28 and it works fine. Had to scan, rescale and print the face, I have a few of these prints left, I can send you one
if you decide to go with this or a similar sized meter. Printed on self adhesive vinyl, printed at 1200dpi on a Canon imagePress c750, nice.

Greetings to Joe and the Forum:

Thanks, Joe. I will keep you in mind. I had a perfectly serviceable dial scale out of the other meter, but I cut it up trying to make it fit on another movement... which I ruined trying to fit into the IM-28 plastic meter case. So, I am 0 for 2 and I am giving up on trying to work on meters.

I take it that the IM-13 and IM-28 have different scales?

If I find an IM-13 meter, I will try to remember your offer.

Regards,

the IM-13 and IM-28 are the same units, different colors is all, the meter would be a direct bolt in.
The one on eBay, 1" smaller, need to drill 2 holes at top, is same specs, works and calibrates fine.
The scale is different, I have reprinted the Heathkit scale to fit, i'll send it free if you go that route.
What part of the Heathkit meter you need, just the guts, glass ok? I may have one as I was running
out of covers. I've rebuilt about 6 of these recently.

Hi Joe!

I fished my IM-28 meter cover out of the trash. Please see photos. It isn't great, but it is OK for students.... you can read the scale through it.

I assume that if you have an old movement but no covers that I should send this one to you so that you can send the movement safely. Please let me know what you would want for the old movement.

I am now torn between going for the new smaller meter or an original with a poor cover glass. I guess I'll let you check your junk box and see if you have one and what you want for it. Then I can decide what to do.

Thanks a bunch,

looks better than my own meter cover. Sorry, I do not have a meter movement anywhere near working.
I use that one on ebay to replace them. I like the motion on that meter too, matching the original for speed
and doesn't slam around the needle.
You may be able to find a larger 5.5" movement, but hard to find within specs needed. or buy a beater 13/28 with a decent meter

Joe

I've got one, it's a IM-28. Very nice shape. $25 shipped in the lower 48.
