Probably copper oxide. Not likely to find any in working condition after so many decades.

Those are copper oxide and seem to last forever, used in tube testers and voltmeters. they were used because of the very low forward voltage drop. These usually can be resuscitated by shorting the output for about 30 seconds or replace them with schottky barrier diodes.
