Where can I buy some grid cap/connectors? I can find ceramic caps but I just need either copper or tin clips.

Fuse clips (PCB or rivet style) will work in a pinch, at least for the octal (1/4") size. Oldradioparts.com has the old style clips.

I have used pieces of copper plated spring and seen regular spring stock used.
I expect an alloy of copper bronze spring would work fine too.
I have not yet tried the plated spring type fuse holders, but if the diameter is good,
. they should work fine

Fuse clips will work for the 1/4 inch caps.

I like to build my own on my lathe.

You need to find a geezer close by with a drawer full of them. I
used one of these back in 1963, no wait , it was '61. :D
