Among a box of odd light bulbs, including some round neon medium-base bulbs with cross-shaped electrodes, I found what looked like standard globe indicator bulbs, except they were marked as 50 volts. I managed to hook a string of 3 together in series with clip-on sockets, perhaps to make an illuminated wall display or shadow box. Another possibility I thought of was getting three old candelabra-base Christmas light parallel strings, and putting them in series so I could use more bulbs.

At any rate, what were these used for? Railroad use, early traffic control panels? They are 50 volt, 5 watt bulbs. I'm just curious. Maybe I could use them as ballasts for series-string curtain-burners...

They'd work as ballasts, but you'd probably need around eight in parallel...

Likely for use in a telephone central office with 48-Volt power.

Most telco stuff was push-in slide base, but other than that the voltage would be about right.
