... the parts order you have been waiting for arrives and upon opening it you instantly realize that you ordered AXIAL caps instead of RADIAL! Dang. And I already had to pad the last order to meet the $20 minimum. Oh well, I guess I'll have to leave the ugly montage of electrolytics that I have been using to work on the set in there until I need more than $4 worth of parts.

at least you can use them...
nothing like ordering low voltage electrolytics for SS stuff and realize you accidently ordered one BIPOLAR value instead of the polarized one.
project tabled for another week...over one click of a mistake.
yea....

It's really pathetic how many times I've done that. I look, but don't see. Size is right. Voltage is correct and mark 20 in the box. Don't even look up where in red it says Radial. Just resonantly I needed small 200u electrolytic caps. Hard to find sometimes. On arrival they were just what I needed except they were 20V not 250V. Stupid. Just plane stupid.

How about when you go to the local parts house(?!) and ask for 10ufd 100 volt electros and you install one and it promptly blows up because they sold you 100ufd at 10 volts instead?!

Poop. That's what sucks about electronics repair today you have to order a required minimum of parts instead of being able to go down around the corner to the local electronics surplus and hand pick exactly the part you need.

How about you need a part so you call and you find it locally about an hour's drive away. You need it now so you call to make sure they have it. You get there and it's gone. Someone came and bought it out from under you. So you end up going to Amazon anyway.

Part the second: After sighing about the axial caps (and whining here) I got to work with the parts I had managed to order correctly. One part was a 25uF axial, I plucked it out of the bag and then removed the one on the radio. I go to install it and natch, it's gone. Search for 5 minutes, no joy, so I pull out the second one I ordered, I'll find the other later. I get distracted by my BIL, come back to work AND I CAN'T FIND THE SECOND AND LAST CAP!! Kinda cross now, I did a complete bench clean up, my usual punishment when I misplace something. Still can't find it. Give up in disgust and decide to go for a walk. Changing into my walking shoes I find one of the caps in the cuff of my pants. Jeez, another 45 minutes of my life gone that I'll never get back.

If I'm going to call and make sure they have the part then I always had them hold it for me then I know it will be there and the trip won't be a wasted effort. I won't buy from Amazon.

My problem happens when I come to the capacitor/s that I failed to order. They are usually of some strange and critical value just to make things interesting.

I usually solve the 'ordering the wrong part' issue by ordering a bunch of values all around the value I need. Only to find out I was wrong about the value I need. ... more stuff in the stock drawers yippieeee
