I think I put the truck as the primary (although it never gets driven) and the car as the other, because I figured (at the time) it would be cheaper to have the truck as the primary, with it being a truck, and oldest. That's probably the reason. I'll bet if you switched primary/secondary on the two vehicles, the rates would flip, and the total would still be about the same. As others have said, if you're 19 and only paying a little over $600/yr for both vehicles, that's a steal.

I've been with State Farm since the early 1970's. I'm on a first name basis with my agent. I know that there used to be more latitude on rate 'adjustments' than there are today, but if you know your agent at all, he might be willing to look into things that can cut your premium at least a little. There usually are items that can be changed in the policy. Type of use is one of them, including miles driven. If under 10K annually, or 7500 miles, it saves a bundle. You should also discuss with your agent whether there would be money saved by using the Caprice as the primary car. The truck is considered an SUV, and could be costing more just because of that.
Those are just a couple of the possible changes that can save you money. You're not doing too badly, but if you can do better, why not try?

Good luck. I'd never admit to being of age and not driving, unless maybe my license was suspended... Tom

Depending on your locale and other technicalities you may be making off pretty good.
Regardless, there are a few things you can keep in the back of your mind:
Is there ANY benefit to keeping the same insurance company forever? There's a dirty little secret with car insurance, and I'm surprised so many people are still naive to this -- every company out there has an entry "teaser" premium, which saves you money over whatever you have now. Listen to those commercials -- Geico can save you 15% or more . . . ; Progressive lets you compare their rate to others; just a couple of examples but the list is endless -- how can every company save you money over the others? Easy -- they give you a good rate for the first year; then the next year it jumps a little, and next year a little more, etc. Buy a new car and they REALLY have an excuse to bump it up. A lot of people swap insurance companies every 3-4 years. Keep your eyes open.
Is the Town Car really a leisure driver? This car is considered by many to be a collector car (my bank has already told me my 99 DeVille is listed as collectible), and you might qualify for collector car insurance. Generally the qualifiers are (1) you have another vehicle for a daily driver, and (2) you keep this car in a garage. Your age? I don't know. Even more so, different collector policies vary from one company to another with rates AND restrictions. J.C. Taylor is highly regarded, and one of the least expensive, but they barely let you drive the thing on a Saturday -- you go to and from car shows and in parades, and that's about it. My personal policy for the Thunderbird lets me drive anywhere at any time, with the knowledge that my Cadillac is the daily driver. It's a little more than Taylor, but still far cheaper, with far better coverage, than the average grocery-getter.
Basically I wouldn't recommend arguing with your provider, unless you want to raise your collision deductible or opt for less coverage. Rather I'd go down the street for a couple of other quotes, and compare.

The car is a four door and the truck is a two door V8 I would guess.
Yes, the number of doors is a factor.

William Et Al; Like Terry and others eluded to, Did anyone ever consider that the truck has potential to earn money greater then the Car. So The truck in the eye's of the insurance company, is a cash cow. You most likely drive car to an average job, whereas a truck may very well be used by a private contractor. Chow Ching $$$$$$$$$ Dan

OK, Insurance Reality Check time! (and maybe a way to save a little). For several years the Wife and I were paying about $800.00 a year Insurance on a 2002 Toyota Corolla with a "senior oriented" Insurance Company. Then suddenly about a year ago - with absolutely nothing changed on our Vehicle, traffic violations, etc. - the same Company tells us $400 more per year - exactly $400 more! Because I suppose they simply wanted $400 more! Well, they didn't get it! We dropped them like a gold plated fishing rod connected to a third rail! Around that same time we joined the AAA Automobile Club. Unsolicited, we received a call from AAA's Insurance Office asking if we wanted a quote. Did we ever!!! AAA bundled our Auto and Condo Insurance, which I estimate saved about $275 per year. No other Company we contacted could offer any better and the coverage we have now is stronger that what we had previously. As for the rate that SignatureSeries has now, my Wife and I could dream all night about that! We feel very lucky for what we have now.

Good luck. Just think what you might save if you stop buying clothes or eating. ... weave your own cloth, grow your own food.... what a great idea Nick.

Truck is a 2 door, 4x4, with a V8, and automatic. It was driven 2,900 miles last year.
Car is a 4 door, V8, and gets driven around 5K miles a year or so.
I'll talk to him about swapping them around, or mentioning the fact that both (the truck esp.) hardly ever gets driven, and see where it goes from there. I do need to add the Caprice to it, which will likely be only $123.00 more a year.

How does a 19-year-old even get insurance for $600 per year for ONE vehicle, let alone two? And, State Farm? I could not get their insurance at all until I had driven for three years. I would thank your lucky stars for a give-away rate such as that, and don't think about the differences.

Funny, a couple of things that were not addresses, Credit rating ties into premiums, and also lack of safety equipment. When you get in an accident they consider the medical expenses of not only you but the other driver. Heres a perfect example, why I don't complain about Insurance costs. Two doors down from us was is guy that I worked along side with and He has Diabetes and was in the process of driving to another town, but he went into diabetic shock and drove his truck into the off-ramp and ended up driving the wrong way and collided with 5 vehicles on the Freeway. Needles to say He almost lost his life, and also put in jeopardy the lives of another guy that also work in the Shipyard. Both of them were in a coma for several months. His medical bills alone were nowhere covered. And He too, had Minimum coverage so this guys financial outlook was a disaster. Remember there were 5 vehicles involved, not counting passengers. Both fellows couldn't collect unemployment insurance as they were working for the Government and still had employment status. My neighbor lost both legs and almost lost one eye because of a piece of metal pierced his skull and entered his eye. Insurance companies don't like scenarios like that. So that's why the rates are where there at. My wife is wheelchair bound, and I cannot afford not to have extensive coverage , so even though I am on a small fixed income I pay gladly after finding out the problems caused by my neighbors negligence of His own Health welfare. He had an "It will never happen to me" syndrome. Just plain stupid!, And to top it off the Neighbor made way more money at work, than did I. Now remember this was an adult in His mid 40s, and were not talking about reckless teenagers, so put that in perspective too.Needless to say my Insurance coverage was increased drastically, after learning of that debacle for my own protection. The old adage comes to mind Penny wise and pound foolish.

There's some good advice in there.
Seems the insurance premiums listed have never mentioned what they do and don't cover. For many years I've worked in the field on color copiers, and each dealer I worked for required my car have $100k/300k coverage. I've put this coverage on ALL my cars, since I don't want a scenario where my car is in the shop and I can't drive another due to inadequate insurance. Yes, even the T-Bird. But I've seen enough situations where the other party is not insured at all, or they're hit-and-run, or even if it's their fault they'll deny it and try to sue your pants off. Don't settle for the legal minimum, get some COVERAGE. I haven't worked for anyone else for a long time now, but I've still got the insurance.

Sure enough, the truck is seen as the "primary", and has the higher rate. I could swap it to the car, but it would make no difference on price. Oh well, now I know.
