I was sitting having my coffee and my cell rings, looking at the screen don't recognize the #
area code 229-256-4974 the call is from Georgia. So i answer: * We have been trying to contact you
this is the IRS and we are filing a suit against you for non payment of your taxes*. I have heard about this type of scam on local media, they say that the IRS will never contact you by phone if they are trying to get a hold of you it will be by letter ONLY.

Have any of you received a call like this? Keep this # in mind if you haven't. Now thinking about this I should have strung them along and played their game, to early in the morning still shaking the cobwebs out.

Yes,I received a phone call from the "IRS" last fall telling me I was in big trouble, blah, blah, blah.I said two words, one was "you".I'm sure the other is very obvious.

I've never gotten any of those scam calls, although I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize. I've often thought it would be fun to play along, maybe start "crying" and saying I don't have any money and don't want to go to jail. Obviously any information I gave them would be phony. :D

I received one of those last year. I told the caller that I had been expecting the call because I don't believe in paying taxes and I told him to come and get me and bring a lot of help. I also told him to bring plenty of body bags because they will need them. I don't know why he hasn't called back.

I've gotten two of those in the last few days but with a different phone number. On the other hand, I have gotten about a dozen similar calls starting with "The reason for this call . . ." These had the same phone number as the other two. Two days ago I got 6 in one afternoon! Of course, I don't answer them.

I must have gotten a half dozen of those calls, about the middle of last year or so. Since I don't answer unknown numbers, they would leave a recorded message, about the same as what Doug got.

Haven't got the time or energy to play with these pukes, as it wouldn't accomplish anything anyway.

The phone companies should also be held accountable for not doing more to block these types of calls.

I got one some time ago ,that combined TWO scams..... Caller said he was from Microsoft Technical services and was calling because my computer was reporting errors that caused the IRS computers to crash and if it was not fixed immediately I was subject to arrest...... he said as a service if I allowed them to "fix" it they wouldn't be able to trace the hack attack back to me.

I played along for awhile, long enough to see he wanted me to load a program that would give him access to my computer. He directed me through all the steps (didn't REALLY follow them of course!) till we got to one where he said I should see the Windows logo on the screen. I told him all I had on my screen was this cartoon penguin sitting there..... That's when he finally figured out he'd been had. Whatever language he started yelling in it wasn't English, one can only guess at what he called me......

They called a few months ago on a cell number. It's on my OOMA blacklist. That works.

If you have a VOIP home phone (from FiOS or cable, not an old POTS line) you should sign up for the free Nomorobo service. This stops robocallers after one ring https://www.nomorobo.com/ It has been discussed on ARF many times.

Unfortunately nomorobo doesn't work when your phone service is in a Spectrum bundle.

That's strange, as Time Warner and Charter Spectrum are both listed.

+1.....OOMA rocks. I'm up to 180 on my blacklist. I know who calls me....

At work, I use have to use google to sort out call backs - everyone else talks about junk voice mail, but I have none. Google it, check the number against other blacklists, and block. Simple, press two buttons process. 1800notes and other "who called me" websites are indispensable for this.....

I contacted Time-Warner a year or more ago, asking about nomorobo, and was told that it didn't work with their service. I assumed that when Spectrum took over, it would simply be a continuation.

Google found the Nov. 9, 2016 press release where Spectrum announced support for Nomorobo, so now you can use it. Things change rapidly in this area https://newsroom.charter.com/press-rele ... -nomorobo/

Whenever I get a strange phone # I look it up on the "WhoCallsMe" website.
I usually find other people talking about getting calls from the same # and it's always a scam.

I don't see any postings about this # tho, it just says it's from Georgia.
