I want to set up an Avatar but I am having no luck. I have resized the picture I want to use and it will not accept it. My resize only has Percentage or pixels. Which should I use? It also asks for a URL but the pictures I want to use is in my pictures file folder and has no url. Can someone help me with this issue???

Nothing to install. You can type in the pixel width or height or both you want and select a maximum file size as well. Resize > download file to your computer > select file ("Upload from your machine") as avatar image.

If you are using Windows, simply go to Paint, and re-size. At the bottom of the screen it will display the new size. If it isn't small enough, delete and do it again until you get down to 100 pixels per side.

http://picresize.com

Agree...Great program for not only avatars but for posting photos in Forum threads

Step 1 Choose your photo from your computer (they do have 3 practice photos just above Browse if you want to try that first)

Step 2 Resize Your Picture.......Go down to Custom Size click it and then a field entry box appears and then enter 100 Pixels width and 100 Pixels height.

Skip to Step 4... I'm Done Resize My Picture! ...Save your photo.

BTW I had a hard time posting an avatar until someone on here posted that site.. My avatar to the left was done using that site and the dimensions are 100 X 100 pixels.

I've never been able to do this because I'm not a computer guru. No problem getting pictures the right size but that's as far as I get. I like this forum but please don't make the assumption that we are all proficient in understanding how everything works. How does the picture get from a saved state to the place where the Avatar (picture) is supposed to reside.
I apologize for my ignorance. It really isn't a major issue but I don't like things I can't figure out.

Process your chosen image using http://picresize.com
arf avatar→ Maximum dimensions: Width 100 pixels. Height 100 pixels. File size 6.25KB

Save the processed image to your desktop or an image folder of your choice.

When logged in to arf
go to User Control Panel

click on Edit Profile
this will expand the Options column
click on Edit avatar

now... Browse to the location on your computer where your prepared image is, and upload.

Greg.

oh... be aware, if your image is rectangular to begin with and you change its width + height to be 100px by 100px (square), it will end up distorted (stretched and/or squashed).
Best to start with a square image in the first place.

Just type 100 pixels for the longest side and leave to other dimension blank.

To add to what Greg posted, sometimes a 100 x 100 image is still too pixel rich, and exceeds the 6.25 Kb size. In that case, simply use paint to resize it down in steps, until you are below 6.25.

Also, animated avys aren't allowed (I tried once, but was told to change it).
