As some of you might know we had a sort of disastrous last winter: California received more rain than it had in one winter than it had in some 130 years. The result was that our 107 year old building's basement was inundated with water. Since then plans have been drawn and unfortunately all indicators pointed towards the unpleasant task of removing the basement floor, digging out part of the foundation, pouring a new floor complete with proper drainage as well as reinforcement throughout. And so the work has begun.

The entire floor is now gone and with it the ceiling above. All walls in the area were taken down as none were load bearing. As seen the ground ( which is almost all sand ) is STILL wet even though it hasn't rained a drop since April. Its pretty clear that the ground down past a certain point just stays that way. And so the entire floor and the foundation walls will have to become effectively water-tight. Of course drainage will have to be a major part of the solution too.

I am glad to see that major progress is being made. Thanks for posting the pictures and report.
