What a day.

If it makes you feel any better, this past weekend I broke my 78 of Lefty Frizzell's "Alway Late (With Your Kisses)". :(

With a crack it could very well still play through without skipping but probably some pops. If it's a clean break a small dab of gel type super glue on the outer edge at the crack will secure the record better and not let glue get into the playing grooves.

I've got my Sun release of that hanging on my wall with 5 other Sun releases including the recently acquired for $2 Johnny Cash I Walk The Line.

I use a strip of invisible Scotch tape the length of the crack to help hold the record together. I have found that I can still play the record, although I don't know if it causes damage to the stylus.

To make matters worse, I was moving off the turntable to put it away.

Thansk for the tips guys, I'll leave it put away for now and try to find a replacement.

A couple years ago I was carrying back from the kitchen after cleaning a very nice copy of In The Mood by Glenn Miller on Bluebird label. Holding in one hand on my side I proceeded to bump it into the door frame of my room. Poof!! 1/3+ of it cracked off. DOH!!! It happens.

Go on ebay and get a new copy. I've found so many records I ruined and many times got new un-played copies.

Problem with that is I only paid a dollar for what was a very good copy of the Lefty Frizzell record. Buying one off eBay will cost me at least $20 and then there's always the chance it won't survive the trip through the mail.

Why buy the old scratched record.
Buy an mp3 version for $1
or
Find the best clean version on youtube. Then use "youtube2mp3" utility via any (free site) to strip off the video and download the audio in mp3 format.
Then play your mp3 player though your home audio equip to your heart's content.

If the other side doesn't matter (I do this on single sided discs), shellac the length of the crack. Use a little alcohol first to slightly melt/ soften the original shellac and then brush on new for the repair. I did this on a single sided discs from 1910 a few years ago and it's held up.
