They had to call it "Television Tape" (see badges) because Ampex owned the name "videotape". RCA already had to pay to license all the works but either they didn't want to pay to license the name or Ampex didn't want to license it at the time. Told my chief once why I liked working in television. It was like being on the Enterprise. Those were the days. Here is the same view with some of the film equipment (foreground) labeled. http://www.oldradio.com/archives/hardwa ... a-tk26.jpg

Good grief, talk about big iron. Can anyone give a brief description of what those various devices do?
Just curious . . . .

The background VTRs are split up. See the hooded rack to the right of them? That's where the tubes were and the hood was a chimney.
Film island equpt in foreground, the boxy structure in the center is the multiplexer. It can mirror any of 3 optical sources into the camera, at the rear. One port is unused, see it covered with cardboard and tape. The slide projector is one source. Look closely, the device behind that holds a film reel. This assembly is an early color telecine. I think the island behind/right of that is a B/W telecine.
Everything shown operated on tubes. The link shows the evolution of these RCA systems when you backup to the index. From tube to transistor, from prism to flipmirror to vertical mirror, to the high-capacity and final film projector TP66.
I worked on/with most of this stuff. Except RCA VTRs. Only Ampex, and everything they made besides tubes.

That's odd, I copied the link from the page displaying above and it goes there when I click it.
Anyhow, there's a whole photo and data section on RCA broadcast eqpt.
