So I'm looking at pictures of Predictas online and came across this page. About half way down it has a picture of a Predicta built into a Desk.Shelf unit. http://flickriver.com/groups/787349@N22/pool/random/Has anyone ever seen one of these or was it a one off custom job?

It would be cool to find one and use the original TV as a computer monitor like some kind of 1950's Jetsons office of tomorrow....

There is one Predicta where the CRT is connected to the set by a cable so that the CRT can be placed anywhere within a few feet of the cabinet. Could the set in the photo be one of those?

There actually were a couple of unique Predicta designs that aren't seen very often. I remember having seen one many years ago that was a much taller version of the set in the photo, basically it would serve as a room divider with shelves. The one pictured isn't the Tandem model with the remote CRT on a long cable, as the main part of that unit doesn't look anything like the photo. It was basically a small consolette on legs with everything except the CRT and speaker in it. The cable was considerably more than a few feet long, you could put the CRT across the room if you wanted to. In fact one of the serious problems with it was the HV wire in the long cable, along with the yoke leads and others having B+ voltage on them. That flat cable was intended to be run under the rug or carpeting. Women with spike heels could easily damage the cable and cause it to short out inside. There's a photo of the Tandem on the ETF website: http://www.earlytelevision.org/philco_t ... dicta.html

This one kind of looks like a Princess built into a Desk, the way a Predicta is put together it would be fairly easy to build it in to just about anything, keeping it running on the other hand...

Awsome thing! I'd like to have such one in my house.. The only thing, I hope it's not too expensive at auctions so that I could afford it

I also recall reading about a factory Predicta that was designed as a room devider, but never saw one. The survival rate of such a set would be slim. As rare as it might me, it likely wouldn't be as sought after as the classic consoles models.

The table construction is somewhat similar to the commonly seen Princess TV stand. Square tubular chromed steel with a gold coating. It could be a factory concept design at the very least although I'm not aware of it being a production item.
