This is inly a couple blocks away from me. The TV is in original owners house and its in real nice shape with original stand, It worked last time he used it but that was a long time ago. His parents bought it because him Mom wanted to watch Milton Berl. If it is a desirable set please let me know and what its worth.
Any advice is appreciated ! Peter

I paid $78 for mine at an auction without the stand in good condition. I don't think $100 would be out of the question but I'd try to get it for less. Mine needs a full recap but does "work". In other words, it has sound and somewhat of a raster. Mine has channel 1. I think all of the 8ts30's had it.

I'd suggest paying as much as $200 if it is in great cosmetic shape. That's a very classic set of interest to many collectors.

He says he has some kind of Green screen cover for it too. I will stop back to see him in a couple weeks with some pennies to spend. Is it a tough recap? Peter

I'm a little more enthusiatic about it!!! That is classic and very collectible set! A 1948 8TS30. The successor of the classic 1946 630TS. I believe they are not too difficult to get up and working and are excellent impressive performers. In that condition with the rarely seen stand I personally would pay at least $200 for it. I would go even more if the finish was in a little better condition. Offer $100 to be fair and see what happens. That's just my own opinion. BTW is that an original Sparton mirror sled radio I see on the shelf or a repro.?? If it is an original it's worth several thousand dollars!

In any event, it's similar to the 630TS, whose restoration you can read about here: http://antiqueradio.org/RCA630TSTelevision.htmIt should not be especially difficult to recap and I would expect it to be a good performer if properly restored. I would offer up to $200 considering that it has the stand. Maybe I'm getting cheap, but it takes a Veddy Special TV to squeeze more than $200 out of my pocket these days. This model is desireable but not super rare. Phil Nelson Phil's Old Radios http://antiqueradio.org/index.html

The only difficulty is that there are a lot more caps and resisters than typical radios. Go for it if you have a strong back.

While $200 may seem like a considerable amount, you have to take two things into consideration.
If the table is a correct RCA one, it has quite a bit of value alone without the TV.
Being local and not having to pay shipping is a big plus, since the TV is very heavy and would cost a fortune to ship. Plus this is one of the RCA's where you have to remove the CRT from the set to ship it, something most sellers would not be able to do.

The boys are right. The thing weighs 85#. I think I have a console or two that is lighter. Good luck on this.

True, I'll always pay more for a local set, to avoid the risk & expense of shipping.

I'll agree that $200 would not be out of line with an original stand, I would want the CRT to be good for that price though.

Good point. That should always be one of the first things to do before purchasing a vintage TV, unless the price is so low that it doesn't matter.
Since no one is currently rebuilding CRT's, and finding good used ones can take time, it is very likely that the price of the remaining good used ones will skyrocket.
