Hello, I am at best a radio novice -- a user. I hook up wires and listen.

I have a Delco AM/FM mono radio that has a remote Delco DS501 convector/amp. Can I use a DS515 convector /amp on this radio without ill effects? I have tested the radio with a good ds501 and it works fine.

thanks

The DS-501 transistor can be replaced by an NTE105 while the DS-515 is replaced by an NTE121. The two devices have different case styles that are not interchangeable.

Both devices are Germanium PNP audio output power transistors. Just different cases. Germanium devices are somewhat rare and expensive as a result (probably in the $30 to $40 range).

However if you replace both the transistor AND the heat sink they are attached to you could use one for the other. Whether there would be other mechanical issues is some thing I cannot determine.

Wow, that is good news as the ds515 in their heat sinks are a little more easliy found than the ds501. I think usually the ds515's are found in pairs for stereo. thankyou ----- now I will try out a ds515 in place of a ds501 and listen to the result. There is also a ds503 that seems to be more in AM only delcos. I do not know that for sure.

again thanks

Hi Dennis;

I do conversions and pull off the the heat sink and DS501 that are often working. If you post a model # and picture I may have the original part.
