I was in a thrift shop the other day and saw a nice Panasonic table model marked "does not work" for $8. Then I saw the "50% Off" sign and decided that $4 was ok even if I only got the speaker and a couple of other parts.

When I got it home I turned it on and nothing except dial lights. Then I switched the "am/fm/afc" switch back and forth and there was some noise. A few more times and I got a station for a few seconds. To make this story short, a couple small squirts of WD40 in the function switch and volume and tone pots and all was happy. After a good cleaning I have a nice table set for my other house.

Happy squirting.

RRM

p.s. This set has about the best AVC of any tube or transistor set I've ever seen, very little change in volume from a station three miles away and one 60.

Nice!!! I've scored quite a few radios at those prices as well.

Our local thrift shop here has 50% Off Senior Tuesdays.

Most of the time it just needs a little squirt to get it going.

I used to go with my mom to thrift stores when I was a kid (50+ years ago.) I've picked up countless radios over the years. They were generally plentiful & inexpensive in those days when there was no internet. Much more difficult (and more expensive) to find older radios at the thrift stores these days what with ebay and the like.
