Well you live in a pretty densely populated ham area, so you could try Craigslist instead of ebay. If you were in North Dakota, it would be different! Put it up there for 995 so it does not look like a grand, and see if you get bites. Put up that it has the "famous so and so" mods but don't dwell on that aspect besides the documentation. Nothing like "some guy said these mods might actually be detrimental" is a no no in marketing!

Had it not been modified, you'd probably get a good price for it as the serious Collins collectors seek out the serial # 5K and up sets. Then again, prices on everything have dropped a lot in recent years.

Definitely one of the best BA receivers out there for fighting QRM. The passband tuning is sweet. The audio - not so much.
