What is different in the R8E version???..and the big question is...what could be the problem if this receiver will work fine on FM and have no audio on the rest of the bands...

It is just a general question...I do not own this radio..but thinking of buying it..

Had the original r8, didn't know they made an e version, I suppose the e version satisfies European laws on not being able to receive certain hf freqs deemed verboten by the respective governments. Such is the case with the Icom R71E. The r71e's in Germany differed in freq coverage from those in Italy and elsewhere due to the eeproms sent to each market.

As to the no am/ssb but fm works, nothing off the top of my head but I'd be looking at the am detector and ssb product detection stages and go forward from there as the audio stage apparently works.
