I just put an American Bosch Magneto Corp. Model 58 on the work bench. All I have to go by is a schematic, that I got on-line. It isn't the best but that is all I have to go by. If anyone out there has a schematic, a parts layout or any other info, on this radio, it sure would be helpful.

There is a large black box on the underside, of the P/S amplifier section, opposite the power transformer I believe this would be the filter capacitor bank. If this is the filter capacitors how likely are these to go bad, since they are encased in a tar substance?

Since this is only my second restore and help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Joe :D

Hi Joe

Did you have this copy of the schematic:

Even though potted in tar caps are usually leaky. Best to bring up voltage with a Variac or have a lamp in series with AC line to act as a fuse. If the light is bright something in your radio is shorted.

Norm
that is the exact copy that I have.

I do have a variac, that was the second piece of test equipment that I bought, the first was an isolation Xformer and third a tube tester.

I will return to this radio and I am sure that I will be asking for more help, advice and info from everyone out there.
