I have got a couple of the old 1920s battery sets and an old a/c set from the same time frame. They take external speakers. I have an old Stewart Warner speaker (ala the RCA 100-a) with two leads, but the coil seems to be open. My question is: is there a way I can I substitute another speaker, like an newer pm speaker? Additionally, is anyone aware of a web page that talks about repairing these old speakers?
Thanks,
Jim
------------------
The speakers you mention are high impedance magnetic speakers, as they all are. This impedance is in the order of 1500-2000 Ohms. You can get a tube to Voice coil transformer and a conventional PM dynamic speaker and connect it to the receiver. That will properly couple the receiver to the voice coil. It'll sound pretty good, too.
------------------
