Hi All, Happy Valentines Day!<BR>Today I was fortunate to be gifted a non-functioning S20R in clean condition. This appears to be a very nice receiver and I can't wait to tear it down and do a re-cap. Hi Ron,<P>I just did one of these. No particular problems. I did note that the radio as built did not agree with any schematic I could find, particularly as regards resistor values. Radio was factory-original. The S20r began life as an S20. You don't see many S20s, but lots of S20R. The S20 had an open dial, which was easily damaged. The dial was enclosed on nearely the same set, and then "R" suffix added. I've had several S20R sets over the years and have rre-capped all of them. They're nice sets. I've had but two S20s, and have kept one of them. There were two versions of the S20R. It appears that they were built for a short time after the war, before they became S40s. Hallicrafters did publish different manuals for the two versions. After the S40, another model number was given to the set, with some slight changes. In its day, it was an above average communication receiver for an operator, at an affordable price. <P>------------------<BR>

I like mine. Recapped and realigned. Works great. I listen to SSB all the time on it. Put up a 50' long wire antenna tree to tree about 20' high brings in all kinds of stuff. Used docs for alignment from this site: <A HREF="http://bama.sbc.edu" TARGET=_blank>http://bama.sbc.edu</A> <BR>Made a hard copy from it downloaded to a printer.

Thanks for the information. Some people don't like the look of the Hallicrafters sets (wife). I personally love my S38 and the S20R looks even better.
