I'm working on a Nordmende Turnadot and I'm at the stage where the cabinet, etc. needs some work. Can anyone give me some advice on cleaning the grille cloth. It's in reasonable condition now. No stains, no sagging, just dingy. I'd like not to remove the speakers if possible as there is one mid-range and three electrostatics plus a three button sound selection frame to content with.

So, any ideas? Appreciate any advice.

If its as good as you say, I would just take the speakers out and vacuum it both sides. The vac needs to be set to a very low suck. It will look as it should for its age.

Any harsher cleaning methods tried by me have all been failures.

I have covered both sides of the speaker cloth with baby powder,
and gently brushed it over the cloth with an old soft paint brush.
Leave it overnight and then vacuum it with a brush.
The baby powder will absorb some of the grease that has accumulated
on the cloth.
This method may not get it real clean, but I found it does make a difference.

Thanks for tips everyone. I wonder if dry power rug cleaner would work? Similiar to the baby power trick?

I use a vacuum cleaner near the cloth not ever touching the cloth. On the front side of the cloth, figuring most dust and dirt is on the front side of the cloth. Gently brush the cloth with a BLUSHER BRUSH from the woman make-up department of a store. Being gentle is important so as to avoid damaging the individual strands in the yarn.
