Hi all,
I have a zenith 10s464 I just restored and it looks and plays great , only thing is the push buttons for the tone controls , the lettering is all worn off to the point you can barely read them.
Any ideas on how to restore these , or do they make a decal for them?
Thanks

I had a couple of this zenith series within the last few months. I was forced to order replacements from great northern for one of them because one of the inserts was cracked and appeared to be "off color". The other zenith had the tone tabs badly faded and stained. I cleaned them thoroughly and hired an artist to hand letter the tone words on them and then lacquered over the final result and it worked just great ----she was skilled!

That's what I was hoping for, My buttons are in great shape except the lettering is worn off I know the lettering was incised into the buttons but even that is worn off because I thought about trying the lacquer stick thing but there is nothing for the lacquer to cling to, guess I will check out great northern. :(

I haven't tried this but it may work. Get some transparent label stock from Avery and see if you can duplicate the font and layout used on the buttons. Cut the labels to fit the buttons and after application, clearcoat the labels to prevent rubbing them off. It beats tossing the old buttons out. If it doesn't work to your satisfaction then buy a replacement set. I had to replace a set of Zenith buttons and it was a pricey affair.

Thanks , I checked Great northern web site , but I did not see a listing for a 10s464 under buttons , unless I missed it somewhere., I will try your idea of the printable decals . I will have to experiment as the font is real small, this looks like a niche for someone to offer a service?

If you have Microsoft Office, I have gone down to 4 points on the fonts in Word. The lowest displayed is 8 points but you can type in 4 and hit enter to set the font to 4 points. That's pretty small.

The lettering is recessed into the plastic. Use a black crayon and wipe the excess off.

I'll check and see if I have a set. They might still be on my parts set.
