Other than what you can see in the photo below, this Cabinet is in good shape. Someone did some major surgery to the front, cutting and removing the top half of the veneer and putting a new trim piece across the top which is too thick and too wide. It covers the top of the grillle opening.

I am going to replace the top trim piece and put new veneer on the entire front. I am not sure if the veneer was sandwiched behind the trim but I am hesitant to try removing the original trim on the sides and bottom for fear of damaging them. Instead I was going to butt the new veneer pieces in against the trim.

Does anyone have some advice for me on this?

I would just put new veneer on the front without disassembly. It will look just fine, make sure the front panel is sanded flat before the veneer is glued down.
