I have a set with a decent photo finish. However, there are usual splitting hairlines, small scratches and chips, usual 80 year old photo finish issues. I think it might benefit from a coat or 2 of the gloss clear lacquer after nice touch up of all small chips. So I wonder, what is the correct surface preparation to do so.
Should the sealer be applied or just light scuffing of the existing finish? W/o sealer the possibility of the fish eyes is high yet sanding of the dried sealer may damage the photo finish. W/o sanding the brush marks will show. Any ideas? Thanks.
