The E-86 looked so good in its new stain that I went ahead and ordered some grille cloth that looked very close to the original and a new plastic dial lens.

I was looking at the escutcheon or bezel. It looks like it was probably lacquered. I'm wondering if I could just hit it with some spray can lacquer and perk it up a bit? Or might that just melt the original and leave me with a wrinkled mess?

I believe you will be fine to spray a coat of lacquer over the bezel without lifting the original.
