I bought an older Triplett Model 310-FET which requires a 7-volt battery. Anyone know exactly which battery it takes? Circa 1974.

I found the manual for the Type 2 online, but that one takes a 15volt NEDA 220 battery instead.

If you happen to have a manual for this older model let me know, or if it is online.

Thanks,
Keith

I should add- Please let me know if you know where to obtain these 7-volt batteries, or substitute, or if there is a way to modify the meter to work with something more common/easily obtainable.

Keith

Does this look like it will work?

Thanks for responding Bob-

Well, I don't know. Maybe that will work. (type A175?)

Doesn't give the dimensions, and I don't know how sensitive this meter is to needing exactly 7volts to be within its stated accuracy.

Does anyone know?

Keith

It takes an Eveready E175 or a Mallory TR-175 mercury battery (neither of which are available anymore). A 175 7.5 volt battery should work; however, it may be necessary to adjust the zero more often. There are no user calibration adjustments (e.g., pots).

OK, thanks Alan and Bob. That's helpful, I appreciate it.

If anyone has the schematic for this older model please PM me.

Thanks,
Keith

My Triplett 310-FET calls for an Eveready 504 which is a 15 volt battery and an N cell.

Yea, you must have a Type 2.

IDK how much room you have for the battery, but opening up a nine volt Duracell and removing one of the AAAA batteries would leave 7.5 total volts remaining.

Hmm... I've never opened a 9volt battery... is that what's in there!

I ordered an E175 off ebay for $3.95, including shipping. Less than most 9-volt batteries. We'll have to see if the little additional voltage throws measurements off much...

If I had a correct schematic for this model I could probably modify the circuit somehow to accept the slightly higher voltage...

Thanks,
Keith

The meter should not have to be modified to work with the slightly higher voltage.

The reason that a mercury battery was used is that it provides a very stable output voltage as contrasted against other types of batteries. This eliminated the complexity adding voltage regulator circuits to the design. If the meter is working, the battery you ordered will work. You will have to use the zero adjust more often to compensate for the voltage regulation characteristics of the battery. I have exactly the same meter that you have and have had no problems (after I replaced the faulty components).

OK, thanks Alan for that info. It's always great to hear from personal experience.

And a special thanks to Steve R for sending me the correct manual for this model!
