Lightning fast except for the 3 times I was posting. Long delays/lockup. But I assume the bugs are still being shaken out so I'll wait to see how it goes.

This is Gooood. Money well spent. I don't know who started this contributing idea, but Thanks. I think I did mine on page 2 or 3 and that wasn't very long into it. A lot of members stepped up to the plate. We need something like this to remind us that this site is not free.

GREAT JOB.
Freeman.

The new server is up and running. The forum on the old server is gone, so the only location to access the forum is where it is now.

If you're seeing the forum, it means the DNS server your ISP uses has been updated and points to the new server. Since I changes the DNS information before the data was actually moved, pretty much all the DNS servers around the world should have the new information by now.

I've been thinking about tackling upgrading the forum software. I've been reluctant to do so for two reasons.

The first is the look (theme) used is a custom one and would require extensive customization to make the newer code build the page as it is now. I've noticed in the past that any small tweet will generate torrents of complaints. Those die down over time and the task isn't impossible, but:

The second reason is the system set up to keep spam out of the forum works 100%. There are filters in place that stop new users from posting spam links and a strong filtering of words and terms that spammers use. If a spammer manages to get past all of that, they then have to get past a moderator who approves the first post that any member makes.

The code that does this isn't available for the updated scrip package, so both moderators would have considerable more work to do, and members would have more spam postings getting through.

I'm still debating this.

So don't. This isn't the only forum running old code. https://www.badcaps.net/forum/index.php for example. No tapatalk there. No mobile theme.

EDIT: Oh, and Kitchen Cabinets

It was interesting to watch the site come up a section at a time. In my case the DNS updated quickly and I saw a partial main page early on. Then I found Features working and then Resources and one by one the other links. Forums was about the last to come up. Books is not currently working, but it may not have been working before the switch either.

Maybe I shouldn't say anything because I have no clue what "upgrading" the software would add or change.

However, I'll flaunt my ignorance by saying that what we have now is mighty fine from where I sit.

I'm not familiar with any forums that use a more desirable format in my view.

I also recognize that my "maturity" brings with it a certain resistance to change, so I'll follow our leader with his best judgement.

I agree with the majority and think the forum is great like it is. Best format around.

Where is the new server located, in the U.S. or the Phillipines?

The only think that I could think of that new forum software would provide that I believe would cut down on "clutter" posts would be a "like" button as many other forums have.

Just f.y.i.: If you're reading this you're seeing the new server. I just noticed that DNS were I'm at is still pointing to the old server, even though the change was made more than a day ago.
