I bought this with the manuals and tube setu cards for 80. + s/h
Is this a good enough piece of equipment for a super green novis?

Also what about a Veriac? There are these red 5amp 130V Variacs with the meterfor $65.00
Will that be okay for me to learn on?

Thanks

John

The 600A can find shorts and weak tubes, but the best thing is that data is available for just about any tube ever made (and it's not hard to test an unlisted one if you have a good one for comparison).

I assume you're looking at this type of Variac,

Just remember these are auto-transformers and will not provide isolation. If you're working on AC/DC chassis you will need to provide an isolation transformer between the Variac and the chassis.

Be careful of Chinese variacs.

I got a 20A version. Came busted up and most screws missing because the holes did not line up.

Even worse, the hot/neutral were swapped on both the in and out. So if you turn off the breaker, both outputs are at 120V. The wiper takes the neutral from hot to 20V below neutral.
