Turns out I had more than I thought, including two duplicates (Saxophobia and Kitten on the Keys).

I've heard a few of these songs on YouTube, but I've never gotten to listen to any of these records because I don't currently own a Diamond Disc player. (Yes, I know you can configure a stereo turntable with a 78 rpm setting to play them as well... but I don't have one of those either).

As a result, I'm not 100% sure what I've got here--hence the desire to catalog. I got most of them either in boxed lots of records or because I came across them at the local thrift store and wanted to rescue them. A few are a bit rough around the edges, but most are in very good condition. Any thoughts on which might be worthwhile and which are just rubbish would be appreciated.

(Sorry if the formatting is a bit glitchy; I copy/pasted it from an Excel spreadsheet. Please note that each side is listed as a line item. Items with a reference of xxxx# indicate a disc which did not appear to contain a record number. I also had to guess at a few of the sides, as some of the earlier records didn't always indicate an L or R side).

Hi. These are all common titles of no great shakes, but, a number of them I would call good titles. Fairly common stuff, but, some very good. Some not great.
There are two I'd like to have. One is Kitten on the keys.
Other is:
50964 Edison L Teasin’ Vincent Lopez Orchestra
I have side R on cylinder. I like it.
I have the diamond disc, but, it's not playable with major lam cracks.
If you'd consider trading, or, selling those, please pm me.
Otherwise, some of them are very good, albeit common titles.
I have a number of them, though alot of them I don't have.
Great job on them....
I've been wanting to catalog mine for years.
If you lived closer, I'd swap a machine to you.
I have one extra I could get rid of.

Interesting list of music titles. I have some DD records and a DD player. You probably know that Edison DD was recorded at 81 RPM and playing one on a modified cartridge 78 turntable makes them a bit--sluggish unless your t/table has a speed control adjustment.
Some of the DD records I have seen would be "politically incorrect" today. Wonder if that makes them more collectible?

Hi, Harold. Officially, for the record, according to Edison records, the speed is 80 rpm.
Not that 81 is much diff. Not noticeble, says I.
Just informational.

Actually I see very few that I personally would call rubbish. Apart from the Hawaiian orchestra & Saxaphone sextet recordings, and some of the band "waltz" recordings, the others I would play (and enjoy) on a regular basis.
I'm not a great fan of Helen Clark, but I quite like a lot of her duet recordings, and marches aren't exactly my cup of tea either, but there are a lot of other collectors who enjoy them, & I have to admit that some of my Edison march records were well recorded & sound fantastic.
Generally speaking, discs in the 80-82,000 series have a very limited fan base, as these were more classical/traditional recordings, but I've found many of these I have to listen to before desiding whether they are crap or not. Most are fairly boring, but others are real gems.
Most of your 50/51,000 popular series records look great. You've got a lot of good jazz & dance orchestra recordings, and artists like Billy Murray, Cal Stewart, Golden & Hughes, and Van Eps are still popular with collectors today.
I think most would be $5-$10 discs, and a few perhaps a little more.

Thanks for the thoughts, everyone. I have been able to find about half the recordings either on YouTube or the UCSB Cylinder Preservation Project, but the rest sit silent until I can find a good deal on a DD player.

I like Harry Raderman and Fred Van Eps, Vernon Dalhart is a bit hit-or-miss for me, the Green Bros. stuff is fun, the Zez Confrey record is one I specifically sought out, and most of the others I'm not as familiar with. I know classical tends to have little value, but the Coriolan Overture is one I chose because I really like the piece (I am a violinist, after all). The Creole Singers also seems to be a stand-out title. I didn't choose any of the Hawaiian stuff; it all came as part of boxed lots.

I got them from three sources: a couple of eBay boxed lots, the local thrift store, and a local oddities shop (Viracocha

As I've mentioned, my goal is to find an oak C-250 for the living room. Someone in the east bay was selling one for $80 (!) back in January, but never responded to my emails, and it had been sold by the time I called. The only ones I've seen pop up in the last few months have been dramatically overpriced, so the wait continues.

Meanwhile, I'm going to catalog my cylinder collection, then my 78s, and if I have the energy, my LPs. The cylinders shouldn't be too hard, as there are only 9 4-minute cylinders - including one modern release - and twentyish 2-minute. The 78s will be a bit daunting, as I have a bookcase and a half full of them, and I probably have a comparable number of LPs.

I hope we don't have to move any time soon...

Thanks Bill for correct speed. I stand corrected. Slipping memory I guess.

Not to worry. If I had a penny for everything I've forgotten in just the past 26 years I'd be a very wealthy man, now.....

Almost done with my cylinders as well. I expect to have a list of those (along with videos of all of them playing) up in the next day or two.
