i have not done a forum before so here, im trying to fix my grandmothers record player that says it is a w700 w800 LR13392. i believe that some springs are missing. because the drive disk will not contact the motor shaft. im trying to find pictures or some thing that will tell me if they are missing or in the wrong place. thank you. i can add a picture of it if i figure out how and you need them. if the numbers do not mean anything. thank you

That was the right information. It made me understand how the drive system operated. Is there a website people can order things like a motor?

The motor will spin when i have the record turn table removed from the top of the unit. Occasionally i had to spin it with my fingers to get it to start spinning, and occasionally it would stop or go into a lulling or hunting rpm. Then when i put the turn table back on top of the unit it will do the same thing but also eventually stop, as if it was to much of a load for the motor. But, can be restarted for a while by spinning the turn table manually bringing it back up to speed.

It could well be that the lubrication in the motor/bearings has hardened and is slowing it down. Most people recommend dis-assemble, thorough cleaning, and lubrication of motors with turbine oil.
You can bet it most likely has not been rebuilt.
In addition, if your record changer uses an idler wheel to transfer motion from the motor to platter, the idler wheel will need to be replaced. The rubber idler wheel hardens with age and the idler loses its friction grip.
Also make sure the inside rim of the platter is cleaned with isopropyl alcohol. Same with idler wheel and motor drive surfaces. If there is any oil/grease in these areas, this could be another source of symptoms you described. H

Thank you. I will disassemble the motor and clean i assume with contact cleaner and lubricate and order a idler wheel. Yes it has one. i found "the voice of music" website. is that one you would recommend?

Cheaper than contact cleaner. 2. Yes, voice of music is very reliable. H

Hello hotwax I just got the turbine oil in the mail today. Do I only put the oil in the bronze/brass bushings in the opposing ends of the housing? or also around what I believe is called the stator. Thank you.

Correct, only apply the oil to the bushings on opposite ends. Do the bushings have felt oil reservoirs in them ? Keep oil off of the rotor, too, obviously. If you could post a good photo(s) of the motor, that would greatly help. I'm giving general advice from other types of record changer motors I have rebuilt, such as General Industries and Alliance. H

Good photos.
Have you taken a q-tip and cleaned out the bushing base where the rotor sits ? Also, I presume you cleaned the rotor shaft and tip ?
It looks like there were felt oil pads in the bottom bushings, but they can deteriorate and fall out. Also, check for upper bushing oil pads. If the pads are in there, you can add some turbine oil to them. I'm not sure if anyone has found a way to replace missing felt oil pads. Hotwax

Thank you for all your help. I am waiting on the idler still and will then reassemble. I will let you know how it turns out.

Thank you Hotwax. It spins very well and freely. replaced motor mounts idler wheel and cleaned and lubed motor. Starts and spins right off the bat no jump start needed. Im working on getting power and sound from the speakers now. Might post more questions in the future. thanks again.
