I have a VM model 920 turntable that has just been overhauled. It has a new cartridge but is currently wired for mono. I need a pre-amp to play records through my AM broadcaster. Since I know little about phonographs, what exactly am I looking for?

You need to give us the input specs for your broadcaster. Specifically, what is the input impedance, and what is the voltage level required for 100% modulation?

We also need to know the make and model of the cartridge. This is a major factor in selecting a preamp.

David, I spoke to the builder of the broadcaster. No pre-amp is needed for turntables. The AK radio set up I had couldn't handle the music. Broadcaster works fine and the records sound great through my 39 Zenith console.
