The metal front grill has a lot of rust. Can anyone offer a good method of removing the rust without damaging the metal. I would like to clean this speaker up. It sounds good. I just stated painting it and so far so good. Just need to know how to attack the front metal grill

Molasses only attack the rust not the metal, it's cheap 17$ for 2.5 gals makes 25 gallons, disposal is not a problem. only down side when cold it is slow working. tt
Lowes didn't have it. Will have to try Home Depot or one of the super markets. So far the paint job is coming out pretty good. I am using the Preval kit with a good match picked out at Lowes

That is funny, and I do love it.
Need to read a bit about it. Can I just soak the pieces in a plastic container of this stuff or do I add water to it? Might pick up some tonight.

Likely active ingredient is phosphoric acid. Can be had at Lowe's as Jasco Prep and Prime. Works great to remove rust, provide a thin conversion coating and ready to paint over after a rinse.

Don't make any assumptions when dealling with any rust remover. Before you use any of this stuff, click on the links above and read the threads. The Works is not for soft metals like aluminum or brass, for instance. Using the wrong stuff in the wrong application can cause very real damage.

The piece on the right is after 20 mins sitting in the works. It looked rusty like the piece on the left. I used a scotch brite pad on the top of the grill on the right and it cleaned it up nicely.
I have not figured out how I will clean in between each grill section yet. I am not sure if it is dirt I was taking off the grill with the scotch brite pad of any kind of finish that might have been there. However I do get a shine after cleaning it.
