I never cease to be amazed at the algorithms used to post ads on this forum.

Already I find it interesting that I see plenty of ads for local car dealers or other Sarasota businesses, but it's even more interesting that I can peruse websites that offer products for sale, and these items seem to follow me here.

Then, this morning -- I'm starting to get a toothache, and I'm not happy with my dentist. So I checked out another outfit, and have an appointment. They gave me their website which has paperwork making it easy to me to fill out info before arriving. Sooo . . . I happen to check the forum and voila! "Become a Dental Technician"! Yah, right . . .

Guess what? Right now as I'm typing this, a new ad just came up -- dental plans from $6.95 a month . . .

That's Google, tracking your web activity.

I use an ad blocker and never see them. They are blocked everywhere I go on the web, and don't miss them.

There are three dental adds that I see. I don't know what is there normally, I never look at it until someone mentions it in a post.

Really bothersome. Mostly I get trash mail and e-mail adds for burial or cremation. Wonder what that means?

I see three adds for dentists. This is the first time that I have seen such adds here. It is sort of interesting because I have been having a lot of dental work done recently.

That just brought back a memory. I had a friend who used to have a lot of problems with his teeth. After he left one of his jobs the employer went out of business and the building was taken over by a dentist.

Bingo! No, haven't seen this ad, but that's the diagnosis. Yuck! Glad I'm going to a different dentist.

An extra data point on what kind of sidebar ads you get.

Short version: Its absolutely your own personal fault ! :P

My reasoning: For the last two days, my primary sidebar ad is from Cabela's, a online fishing gear outlet. I was shopping there over the weekend, and its the first time I used them. So there they are.

So now I wonder where you guys have been surfing, who get the racy girly ads, while I get the boring Allied Electronics ads.

How's this for ironic?

I recently signed up with a wholesaler for car stereo products. While surfing some of the manufacturer's pages for specs, then looking at some online stores to compare prices, now I'm inundated with ads trying to sell me my own products!

It's not the ads that bother me, it's Google TRACKING me! Any way to block that?

The current version of AVG has do not track included. I like it...tells me how many things are being blocked at any given time.

Use Firefox and download AdBlocker, (both free).
