I was taking my set apart and when I was removing the chassis these two little tabs fell out. I can't figure out their purpose and where they should go. They seem to be tapped but I'm not sure and the penny is just along for the ride. Ed

Hi Ed, I think your missing the middle probably about 1/4 metal strip that normally goes between the grill and the top section. That curves around both sides and has two little screws on either side that screw into the chassis and probably your two tabs.

Ed - Shaunp is correct that your Crown TR-333 is missing the metal strip that helps secure the grill to the case. You can see where the tabs are inserted into the 2 slots near the radio controls. I believe you could make a replacement strip from a piece of brass, although the grill on the Crown TR-333 seems to stay in place without the strip. - Mark

Another method to restore the cosmetics and give it a finished look would be to get a roll of brass or gold colored pinstripe tape with the correct width from an auto parts store.

Sorry for the confusion guys, I have the strap but I didn't even notice that it wasn't on in an old picture. When I took it apart I backed the screws all the way out and didn't know about the slots for the tabs. Thanks again Ed

Ed -The TR-333 is one of my favorite transistor radios as Crown used screws to secure the dial panel and metal strip instead of using glue or pins. Such a simple, but elegant design! - Mark

Mark, I notice what looks like a little cylindrical spacer sitting on the grill of your set, does that go to the radio too? Ed

Ed - The spacer on the Crown TR-333 goes under the dial panel so that when you tighten the screw, it doesn't crack the plastic panel. - Mark
