If they're alphabetic or alphanumeric more than 20 years old, the caps are bad.

Younger caps may certainly be bad, or soon to fail.

I worked for a distributor in the early 80s, and we sold Mallory caps, mostly the FP, TT, and PVC series. According to our rep, Mallory only placed date codes on military stuff - all other codes were lot codes, used internally, and the codes were not placed linearly with the other markings, but hand stamped. Apparently, Mallory did batch sample testing before packaging, and the codes merely identified all in a batch

As Mallory hasn't made an axial or radial electrolytic in a while, the NOS stuff is quite dated. One exception - they did distribute some 105 degree, Asian-made radial electrolytic caps that were remarked Jamicon capacitors - the datasheets had both brands on them.

AeroM got the Mallory FP (can caps) machinery, moved it to Mexico, and made caps there for a dozen years - mostly to fill military and commercial(Tek and HP used them as replacements...) requirements. They date coded their caps, in the traditional EIA YYWW manner - 677-YYMM for most, with a suffix if it was a special order or OEM-only cap, with a format 677-YYMM-A. AeroM's FP145A was used in Magnavox-made military radio we serviced regularly - I never saw one fail, so the quality is quite good.

There is at least one vendor claiming to make caps using the Mallory equipment, so maybe the production still exists.

Me, Axial Sprague Atoms, actually made by Barker Microfarads here in Virginia are my "go-to" reliable cap for commercial stuff, else I just use Panasonics from Digi-key. Sadly, you can't buy directly from Barker....

Submit a quote.....MCB of 10K units, not for the small buyer. BMI is all about contract, excepting their motor start/run stuff.

Been there, done that.

I've often wondered what the WG15 represented on these 1932/33 box capacitors Zenith used.

Is it a batch code?
