Does anyone know when this site started, what are its roots, and who were the original members? Cheers, Russie

This is posted on this site's splash page:

"In 1995 a small niche site was inaugurated on the then new World Wide Web. Over the past several years, with the help of hundreds of regular visitors, it has grown into the most visited site for antique radio collectors (source: Alexa)."

As for original member, there were quite few with a lot dropping off over the years and during the several iterations of ARF. FWIW, I joined back in either 1995 or 1996.

BR,

Terry

Greg:

Thanks! I forgot about that picture of me on my place here in Virginia with a couple of my mares and wearing my old Mensa shirt!

I came in early 2000. Not many categories then. Lots different member names then. I claim
(Rightly or wrongly) the popularization of ARF and ARFers in reference to us. We were getting
a lot of cat pictures at one point. I wanted Dog pictures too...Being we were ARFers. 8)

If you search posts here using the search tool built into the forum software, it only finds posts back to 2000, even for members I know were here prior to that. I'm not well versed in searching internet archives, so hard to tell how much further back beyond 2000 I go, but I would guess somewhere around 1998.

20 years ARFiversary for me this month, looking for a schematic and help for my Zenith 9S262. Fixed, after many years of storage, all due to a bad cap on the speaker field coil!

When someone writes the history of Antique Radio Forum I want a chapter all to myself.

When they make the movie, I want Tom Cruise to play me.

Thank you.

I don't remember when I joined either, however I have an email from 2002, though it seems even then I was an established member.

Anyone know when the 'joined 1970' thing started?

I thought it was around 2006 when the server was updated only because I think there are members that have join dates in 2006. ( I could be wrong). ....Be interested in knowing who is the member with the oldest valid join date after 1969 or 1970 (depending on your time setting)...... Inquiring minds would like to know 8)

Some info here about the sever time

BTW I only see the join date as 1969 including yours Sol.
