I just purchase a VTVM; Ballantine Model 300E (CTAM #2625) primarily for a bit of steampunk rather than for usage–since I have way more than enough quality meters available. That being said I will try to get it working properly if I can find a schematic, and hopefully a user service manual. I've done some searching but have come up short. If anyone can point me to a source for the documentation it would be appreciated.
Thanks, Richard

This but should be close enough, I think. I had a 300 for many years they are good lab grade meters.

I have two of them. With mine the only real problem was the capacitor that is mounted on the back plate (inside). Those are nice, accurate meters.

What about a calibration procedure?
I sure hope that it's more straight forward then the HP 400 series!
The one that I bought would be termed a "rat" as to it's appearance. It's been in and out of racks many times; however, the meter looks great and I actually like the been through the mill look. It will be a prize piece; especially if I can get it to work properly. This one is a "one man's junk–another man's pleasure" piece of gear.

I *may* have a manual, but it would be buried in a pallet of boxes of manuals that I have not had time to look through. I will make you a deal .. PM me on Wednesday (after my current project ships out) and I will make looking through those boxes my next priority. I was starting to do so when this project hit me, since I'm restoring a lot of old equipment eventually myself, and your Balentine is one of them that I actually want to keep for use rather than display. I am asking for a PM because at the moment my brain is mush and I can promise I won't remember to do this unless prompted

Understood on the brain mush. Must say that contemplating restoring an HP 400L and an H have me in the same spot regarding calibration. Real luck would be finding someone with a working set of the dedicated HP calibrators for these VTVM. There is an incomplete tread on the forum on calibrating the 400 series–nothing that I can work with considering my experience level (enthusiastic amateur that primarily works on AA5).
I have it on my calendar to message you next Wednesday, 2/14.
Thanks,
Richard

My earlier link was for the straight "300" meter, but this is a link for the "D" version of the meter, its pretty close to the "E" you're looking for. Hope it helps.

I had a bit of time to start on my manuals Pallett. So far all I've come up with is a manual for a Ballantine 303 ... not sure if that is the same as your 300 or not. More next week. Still a few boxes to go. Probably everything ever printed for HP and TEK tho .....and no, I have not sorted them yet so I have no idea what's in those piles

I have not as of yet compared the linked manual posted to my model—which may solve the problem.
Took a look your website—geez—your into some heavy stuff. If all that knowledge gets too much to drag around I will will be happy to take some, just to help lighten your load. <G>

Steve,
Thanks for making the effort to post the 300E manual.
This will get me back to restoring mine.
Richard
