I recently obtained one of these meters and never having seen one before, I'm struck by a few items:

1. It's bigger than the more common IM-18, in fact it has the same meter as an IM-28.
2. It's all point to point wiring on a very roomy chassis.
3. A cursory examination of the parts makes me think that aside from aesthetics, there is no difference between this meter and Heath's other VTVMs of the period.

So does anyone know Heath's rationale behind offering the same electronics inside a bigger box?

And does anyone have a manual for this meter?

I've seen several generations of Heath test equipment which kept the same old circuit in a newer styled box. Marketing ploy, I'd guess!

The IM-18 is meant to be portable-take it with you, in a tall and narrow case with a handle Confused. The IM-28 includes tilt/swivel mount with a short and wide case. It's meant to be fastened to bench or bottom side of shelf. Mine is on bottom side of shelf leaving room on the bench for more crap.

I do not have a schematic.

The IM-32 replaced the IM-10. In Heathkit speak that might mean a new case or just a new number. a schematic for the IM 10 can be found here:

There is very little difference electronically across the IM line

Thanks for the link. I was hoping to get a manual mainly for component placement, etc. Indeed, the IM-10 looks a whole lot like th IM-18 et. al.

I have dealt with this guy and he has good quality stuff. I don't see that he has an IM-32 listed but you might send him an email, since not everything he has makes it onto the website in a timely fashion
