Could someone post a picture of this Detrola 571 rear panel? Also if willing to make a tracing of your rear panel that would be even better!!!!
This is a picture of what I think could be a partial rear panel from the same model Detrola 571 radio. (eBay find)
Thank you for your assitance. |

Hi Duffy,
I have a 571 also. Unfortunately there is no back on it, however there is evidence that there should be one there. There are 4 small metal clips mounted to the periphery of the case that obviosly would be used to retain a thin back.
I'm posting some photos of mine to point out what appears to be a problem for you.
There should be an internal loop antenna mounted to the rear of the cabinet. It looks like yours is missing.
See below.............
I'm thinking that perhaps a previous owner lost that original loop antenna so in it's place he found a radio back with an attached loop that would fit closely enough to your radio.
I guess it's a possibilty. Just letting you know. _________________ .....Dennis.....

Dennis,
Thank you for your response. The picture of the rear of the radio I posted, is a picture shown in an ad on eBay for a Detrola 571 with the same appearance but not my radio. My radio looks just like yours with the wound antenna as well as 3 of the 4 small metal clips still present.

I see........I obviously thought it was your radio. Wonder if that eBay posting mentions that there is no antenna included.
I thought that maybe http://www.retro-tronics.com/ would have a cover for a 571 in stock but no luck there either. If you are able to come up with a tracing of the correct backpanel please let us here on ARF know. I would be interested in getting a copy if I could. A scan would work also. _________________ .....Dennis.....

I just emailed you a dimensioned scan of a complete undamaged back, you should be good to go from that. _________________ Dennis |

I took the scan of the Detrola 571 back panel (provided by Mr. Detrola) into my image editing program and stretched and turned and fussed with it to come up with a full size line drawing.
Not sure how this image can be accessed full size (on ARF) to enable using it as a template....but if anyone would like a full size image of it just PM or email me.
It's also in the ARF photo gallery under "Detrola":

Note that there are two very distinctly different Detrola 571 chassis. One has conventional variable capacitor tuning, and uses the loop glued inside the cabinet, and the back cover for which I supplied the scan.
The other Detrola 571 used inductor tuning and has a totally different back, with a foil antenna plate bonded to the inside of the cardboard.
The two are not interchangeable, so you will need to know which version you have before trying to use this pattern to make a back.
Also note that there are about a dozen cabinet styles for the Detrola 571, and this back is specifically for the one that was requested. There are several completely different backs for some of the other cabinets, although you could just resize this one for any of the wood ones using variable capacitor tuning. _________________ Dennis |
