The month for brides, I've got three strikes so that leaves me out.
With gas up a dollar a gallon we'll be staying by the ole fishing hole.
Have a productive month.. |

The auction that I attended recently to watch the Pepsi radio being sold for 6 bills, had a few other radios that would have been 3 hours later. I told an acquaintance that I liked them, but didn't want to hang around for them. I didn't leave him bids or discuss values, yet he calls me up a few days later and says that he got them for me! Fifty bucks for all three. (I don't have a pic for the cheap little plastic Arvin, although it is perfect) Both of the Philcos appear to be from 1933. Pretty good deal? DENNIS
Model 18 (he plugged it in and it works)
Not marked (pee-wee)

I love the escutcheon on the Philco 18 - - - a neat catch and a set that does not seem to show up all that often.

There are those who will think I've come adrift from what little common sense I claimed to have - - - others will see it as
an affirmation of suspicions of the aforementioned condition.
This may be my only "find" for this month," finances being what they are currently - - But:
I snagged this off EeevilBay the other evening:
Two tubes plus a Crystal detector - - roughly equivalent to a five tube TRF - - - I am told it is a early/mid 1920's
Harkness Crystal set in somewhat less than wonderful condition:
Yeah - - not in exactly pristine condition - - but it has all the big lumps and in mostly the correct places. I think it is
restorable, and I don't recall another one coming along anytime in the recent past:
It'll take a bit of labor, but beyond the slinky looking RF transformers, most of it is in pretty decent shape.
I hadn't shopped on E-Bay much since the changes requiring Paypal, but the seller on this one was willing
to take cash so I was hooked - - - no, not true - - I was already hooked - - he just served to enable me.
It probably wouldn't hurt to burn a candle for either my efforts on the restoration - - or for my loss of common
sense - - or both.

Do they reproduce the coil wire if thats what its called? curiosity seeing that I just stumped onto about a dozen rolls of it. Amazing that its silk covered, that saying they don't make em like to use to is sooo true. Oh and that panel will look stunning once polished up _________________ Jason-

Here is a unique item that I found on Ebay last week as a “Buy it Now.” It had only been listed for about 2 hours when I purchased the item. It is a scarce Zenith Radio Refinishing Kit that was offered in the 1937 Zenith Guaranteed Replacement Parts/Tubes/Accessories catalog. It was intended for use in retouching cabinets or refishing limited areas of the same. The only item missing from the contents is the glass alcohol torch used for heating the burn-in knife. It has some very hard and dry burn-in sticks in several different tints for repairing gouges or deep scratches in radio cabinets. This is the first time I have seen such an item for sale anywhere.

Neat find Martin! I've never seen a kit like that. Amazing to be still around after all these years! It never ceases to amaze me to find stuff like that....or even the radios themselves! ...and then to make them functional again! That's the best part of this hobby. For all but my few daily players, the rest just sit on shelves. The best part of those, were just to make them work again. Always a thrill to hear that first signal of a set that has been idle for 40+ years.
No new finds yet this month....and too much in the cue to really look for any.

Hoffie,
Here is my June finds A poor beat up old Zenith model Z402R but the real prize was in the battery case Here is The Rca 7.5 volt A Battery and RCA B Battery .
Last is this speaker of some sort with volume control .
I wondering if it was part of a early intercom anyone know.
Sincerely Rich

"How would you do the lettering/numbers???"
The lettering and numbers on this are recessed so with a trick shared by Gary Rabbitt I'll take a crayon and melt it a bit then run over the letters/numbers then wipe off excess with terry cloth. Worked pretty good on this Arvin repaint.

If you paint with lacquer and let it cure well, you can paint the recessed lettering with enamel and quickly
wipe off the excess with a piece of cloth barely damp with mineral spirits. If the lacquer is thoroughly dry, the
process won't affect it.
