I am restoring a Western Electric 540AW cone speaker and need to know what color to paint the frame and where I can buy it.
Thanks
Jimmy

Hey Jimmy,

Saw your post late last night, work & bowling night today. We don't want to ignore or forget about new members. :)

The color for these is about 75% olive-drab mixed with about 25% bronze-tone metallic. To my knowledge there is no standard color you can buy.

I have had 5 of these restored by Buford Chidester in PA. here is his site:

http://www.angelfire.com/pa/conespeaker/

Depending if you have(early) block style lettering or(late production) script style lettering casted in handle you should acquire a decal for the pedestal base(late production).

I suggest you have Buford make you up a set of repo leads for your speaker, a $10 bill well spent.

Good Luck with your resto,
Lloyd

Thanks for the info. I have no way of mixing and spraying pain so I might just try to find one with a bad cone ( can get cheaper ).

I had one a while back and sold it. I wished I hadn't done that.
I have two frames and one good driver so I thought I might make a complete one out of them.
Thanks again Lloyd

Jimmy
