The Michigan Antique Radio Club presents
The 16th annual
Meet and Auction

This year the Michigan Antique Radio Club (MARC) is proud to announce our 16th annual EXTRAVAGANZA convention, which will be held at the fabulous Holiday Inn South Convention Center in Lansing, Michigan. The primary activities related to this year’s convention will take place on Friday, July 6th and Saturday, July 7th. However, as has been the case in the past, there will be activities on Thursday evening, July 5th as well as on Sunday morning, July 8th. Last year over 1000 attendees from nearly 30 states and a number of foreign countries, as close as Canada and as far as Australia, enjoyed the festivities. The theme for EXTRAVAGANZA ’01 will be “RADIO’S GOLDEN ERA” where we will be celebrating the era just prior to World War II when radio was the primary source of entertainment in the home and people were intrigued by radio broadcasts from around the world.

On Thursday, Meet registration will begin at 5 PM under the Big Top tent in the middle of the flea market for those who pre-registered. At approximately 6 PM registration will open for those who did not pre-register. Once registration is complete, sellers will be allowed to drive into the flea market to claim their spots. It must be noted: NO SELLING or exchanging of merchandise will be allowed to take place before dawn (approximately 5AM) on Friday morning. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy. Thursday evening will be capped off by a PRESENTATION by Club President, John Reinicke, under the Big Top. This informal presentation will be on Oscilloscopes, a bit on use, a bit on repair.

Friday opens at Dawn with sales in our large open air FLEA MARKET, where we have nearly 400 contiguous spaces JUST for sellers. Friday will close with our informal Social Hour in the evening. The Social Hour features the Contest exhibit, live entertainment, socializing, snacks and veggies, and a cash bar. All EXTRAVAGANZA guests are welcome at the Social Hour for no additional charge. Between dawn and the Social hour will be two more PROGRAMS, the EQUIPMENT CONTEST, the very popular WOMEN’S LUNCHEON, a 50/50 RAFFLE, and our $50 SELLER’S DRAWING.

Saturday will be highlighted by our afternoon Auction with auctioneer and fellow MARC member, Rich Estes. Usually 250-400 lots will be sold with average total sales in excess of $25,000. Saturday morning will see an additional PROGRAM, a 50/50 RAFFLE and our $75 SELLERS DRAWING.

On Sunday as EXTRAVAGANZA winds down, we will conclude our convention with our spirited DONATION AUCTION where an amazing variety of items will be offered for sale to help support the Club. Sunday morning will also see the last 50/50 RAFFLE and our $100 SELLERS DRAWING!

Once again, we will offer Radio Rescue. This is a service where a member of the general public can bring in a set for evaluation. We can estimate value and direct the owner to repair services. This service will be offered adjacent to the registration area under the big top.

We at MARC would like to invite you to experience a fabulous antique radio meet in combination with a huge dose of Mid-Western hospitality. If you can attend only one major antique radio show this year, make it EXTRVAGANZA ’01. You will not be disappointed.
