The rise of radio in the 1930s ushered in the golden age of radio, a period of three decades when radio became the prime entertainment of a nation. Many of the network programs were recorded on transcription disks and have survived so we can listen to and enjoy these programs today. The offering of shows to download wasn't intended as a way for people to acquire great quantities of shows that they never intend to listen to, but rather as a service so that people could listen at their leisure.
