Over the last few weeks, I have been working with Badrestorer (John Kopp) to archive his very popular and highly regarded H500 thread in a simplified, easy to use PDF format.

The thread has been edited to its essential information and organized into six easy to use chapters covering disassembly of the radio to cabinet restoration. It should be noted that the scope of John's thread goes far beyond the H500 Trans-Oceanic. This guide will be helpful in restoring all the 500 and 600 series Trans-Oceanics, and will be of help in restoring just about any AA5 radio.

I will host this document on my personal web site until the end of this month. You can use the link below to download the pdf file. This is a large file, over 43 mb.

http://home.comcast.net/~morrised2006/H500%20Restoration%20Guide.pdf

I would like to find a permanent home for John's H500 Restoration Guide, perhaps here on ARF, as the file is too large to leave on my personal web pages. If anyone would like to host this file, please let me know.

John has one requirement, and that is that this file be made available to all at no charge.

Thanks a lot, Ed. That's one of the threads that I saved a link to because I've got a similar zenith that will be needing attention. John's attention to detail and excellent documentation made that a keeper. And now, your efforts have made it even better.

Hi Ed,
I could put the file on my web site. I have plenty of storage space and bandwidth.

That would be great. You can download the file from the link above and upload it to your website and share the link with us when it's done. Again, thanks!

Now, if badrestorer will just become active on ARF again!!! I know John personally, and he's helped me many times when I would get "stumped" on some amplifier problem. No finer guy out there than John!!! :D

John is still doing his restorations, but he's videotaping them and posting on You Tube. Search You Tube for "joernone" to see what he's up to.

Just did a "look-see" and am very impressed with what is in the article. Downloading it now. I have a non-H500 TO...at least the band switches work...mechanically anyway. So, thanks to Badrestorer for the work on the article/thread.

OK. It's at the bottom of my "Downloads" page. Let me know if I should edit the text of the description.

Looks great, except John's last name starts with K, not C. Otherwise nice presentation. Very interesting website. I've actually visited before, but hadn't connected the dots to you.

Thanks for storing it.

Excellant production ED! Looks like the manuals I work with when servicing copiers, only better. It was a big help when I restored my H500. I don't know what John does for a living but he really should have been a teacher. He's a natural!
